About

Hi, I’m Alexander Nava, a Physics major at UC Berkeley interested in scientific computing, simulation, and computational approaches to physical systems.

My work sits at the intersection of physics, programming, and technical problem-solving. I enjoy building numerical models, analyzing experimental data, and writing clear reports that connect theory to computation.

Outside of coursework, I’m interested in game development, digital art, Linux/system administration, and finding creative ways to combine technical work with design.

Although I am currently interested in computational physics I also have a deep interest in physical things such as engineering and making equipment for physics experiments or missions. To further explore this interest I plan to take more classes centered around hands on work such as pcb engineering, learning how to 3D print and sodder, etc. Although I would like to get more experience actually in a lab (Wink Wink to anyone who has a position open) So please feel free to reach out if you have any opportunities for research, collaboration, or just want to talk about physics, programming, or anything else!

Currently I am unsure as to what field specifically in physics I want to pursue as I am a first year and am still exploring different subjects and areas of physics. However, I have my heart set on gowing to grad school (even if its super competative right now)

On a less professional note, you can probably tell im in to video games such as hollow knight, smash bros, and a whole lot of other ones, so I decided to theme each tab around a different video game or series that I like. The about tab is themed around hollow knight, the projects tab is themed around smash bros, the experience tab is themed around pokemon, the physics tab is themed around frieren at the funeral, and the personal tab is themed around omori. I also have a lot of other games and series that I like such as zelda, dark souls, and many more, so if you have any recommendations for games or shows to check out please let me know!

Thanks for checking out my website, and I hope you enjoy exploring it as much as I enjoyed making it!!

A ♠
Project 01

Heat Diffusion Solver

Implemented explicit and implicit numerical solvers for the 2D heat equation, explored stability behavior, and visualized results with heatmaps and animations.

Project 02

Scientific Computing Simulations

Built small simulation projects to connect physical theory with computational methods, with results documented in Jupyter notebooks and LaTeX reports.

Project 03

Physics Data Analysis

Analyzed lab data using Python, produced graphs and model fits, and wrote reproducible reports with figures, captions, and technical discussion.

Physics

I’m especially interested in scientific computing, numerical modeling, and using computation to better understand physical systems. My current coursework includes mechanics, waves and oscillations, and electricity & magnetism, along with the math and programming tools that support modern physics work.

2D Fluid Simulation (SPH)

A particle-based simulation of fluid dynamics using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics. Models pressure, viscosity, and external forces to approximate fluid behavior. You can find the code on my Github in the Experience tab.

Also a really cool project here at berkeley is the COSI space mission that is a collaboration between SSL (space science lab) and NASA to help us understand more about high energy events out in the universe
